Mammoth Cave National Park remains closed due to government shutdown
MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – It is day 13 of the government shutdown and Mammoth Cave National Park remains closed.
The closure isn’t just affecting tourists plans, but the community as a whole.
Marlinda Froedge said her husband drives a bus at the national park and the partial shut down has caused some financial belt tightening in her family.
Froedge has cut all extras from her family budget such as eating out, she said.
The closed sign on the visitor’s center at the park, was disappointing to a Chicago family who had hoped to take in one of the world’s natural wonders. They made the day’s drive only to find that the tours were shut down.
The longer the government shut down drags on, people like the Froedge family will continue to feel the financial burden of one less paycheck, and potential tourists will be disappointed at missing out on the cave system.
