Mammoth Cave National Park lifts open fire restriction

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – Mammoth Cave National Park officials have lifted a burn restriction due to recent weather conditions.
According to a release by Mammoth Cave National Park, the burn restriction was on all open fires within the park.
The restriction applied to campfire use in the park’s three front country campgrounds, all back-country campsites and picnic areas. Visitors are now permitted to use the fire pits and grills within these areas.
Visitors should always use caution when building and using a campfire.
Fires should never be left unattended and a source of water or a fire extinguisher should be nearby, park officials say.
Fires should be completely extinguished so that the coals are no longer hot to the touch once the fire is no longer being used.
