Mammoth Cave National Park and Camp Nelson National Monument to memorialize Juneteenth

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – Both national park sites will pay tribute to African American history, triumphs and stories.

A ceremony will begin on June 22 at 1 p.m. CDT. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be a tent encampment and cannon ball replica to show how soldiers lived.

A U.S. flag will be presented to the 12th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery at the Mammoth Cave outdoor amphitheater. The flag is custom with 12th USCHA’s information honoring them.

This will pay tribute to fallen soldiers, refugees, civilians and slaves who died reaching their freedom.

Both events are open to the public at zero cost. The park visitor center is located at 1 Mammoth Cave Parkway, Mammoth Cave, Kentucky where the encampment demonstration will be.

The outdoor amphitheater for the flag commemoration is located between the hotel building and the gift store.
