Mammoth Cave and Camp Nelson team up for Juneteenth celebration
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Juneteenth, the newest federal holiday, is only two weeks away, and Mammoth Cave National Park, and Camp Nelson Historical Site are teaming up to celebrate the local African American soldiers who served in the Union army.
On June 22 at 1 p.m., Mammoth Cave will commemorate Juneteenth and pay tribute to the African American soldiers, civilians and refugees who pursued, fought and died for freedom.
A special U.S. flag, designed by the Loyal Ladies of Bowling Green during the Civil War will be presented to the reactivated 12th US Colored Heavy Artillery Regiment. This powerful and emotional celebration will be open to all visitors for free.
