LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville Zoo is asking you to wear pink to celebrate International Flamingo Day on April 26.

The Zoo says anyone who joins the “pink out” with their brightest pink will save $2 on admission at the windows that day.

At 11 a.m. Wednesday, the Louisville Zoo’s flock of over 80 birds will march into their Americas Zone habitat. According to the Zoo, they are now home to the largest Chilean flock in North America.

An additional two flamingos are expected to join the zoo soon.

The Louisville Zoo is a partner of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Andean Highland Flamingo SAFE program, which supports the conservation of Andean, Chilean and Puna flamingos.

The Zoo says these birds are losing habitat due to mining rare earth minerals used in common electronics.

The Zoo hopes to inspire guests and encourage them to help in these conservation efforts.
