Logan man charged after alleged threats to shoot down aircrafts
ADAIRVILLE, Ky. – A Logan County man is facing charges after authorities say he made threats to shoot down aircrafts.
According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Daniel Draper, 70, of Adairville is charged with two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening.
The sheriff’s office says it received a call Tuesday from the Fort Campbell Provost Marshalls Office in reference to Draper.
Deputies say Draper called Fort Campbell and stated, “If I wanted to, I could take out two people in the military helicopter that was flying near my house.”
Authorities say the sheriff’s office was dispatched to speak with Draper, who complained about helicopters disturbing him but denied making verbal threats.
On Thursday, authorities say ECC received a call from the Federal Aviation Administration out of Nashville, Tennessee regarding Draper calling a second time stating he was going to shoot down any aircraft that flew over his home.
Because of the second threat, deputies say an official with the FAA stated they were restricting all air space over Logan County until the situation was resolved, potentially affecting hundreds of flights.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to Draper’s address off of the 9100 block of Nashville Road, where he was arrested.
He remains at the Logan County Detention Center.
