Logan County Tobacco and Heritage Festival events continue into the weekend

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Logan County Tobacco and Heritage Festival is coming to a close this weekend after multiple community events.

Seniors in the Logan County area came out to enjoy a leisurely one-mile stroll on Friday morning around downtown and connected with members of their community. Once the walk concluded, there were door prizes handed out, and tobacco was on display.

The senior stroll has been a part of tobacco fest for decades now and is one of the last events before the big parade, which will take place on Saturday, Oct. 11.

All of the events during the festival are big for the community as they bring everyone together from all walks of life and invite former residents to come back from years past.

“There’s so many events for so many different sectors of the population,” said Jenn Nigbur-Siebold, Russellville Parks and Recreation director. “We try to include everybody in it, from the Jesse James 5k and the golf scramble. There’s lots of events that people can take part in throughout the whole tobacco festival.”

Another event that took place after the Senior Stroll was the Special Needs Awareness Walk.

One hundred and ten participants laced up their shoes to show support and raise awareness for people with disabilities in Logan County, and for Shelby Offutt, Logan County Tobacco Heritage and Festival chair, she says seeing more and more people show up to this annual event is what makes it all worth it.

“It’s just a good time to make everybody feel like we see them, we love them, we support them,” Offutt said. “A lot of people don’t know of all the events that we do. This is one, I think, that isn’t publicized as much. But just talking about it and making everybody come together [makes it all worth it].”

The events will conclude with parade and grand finale concert, along with the Jesse James Bank Robbery Reenactment, on Saturday in downtown Logan County. To learn more, click here.
