Logan County receives $2 million for ‘speculative building’ project

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – It is expected to be a big boon to Logan County in the next 18 to 20 months, hoping to attract businesses with a large economic impact with Logan County.

It’s been a thought for many years but is now getting off the ground after receiving a $2 million grant from the Kentucky Product Development Initiative to go toward a big project for the county. The city of Russellville, Logan County and Logan County’s Industrial Development Alliance filed an application for the funds in April of 2023 and found out toward the end of February that the money would be coming in soon.

The plan is to build a “speculative building,” which is an empty shell where a company could move into, which would make it quicker to market for said company, similar to flipping a house. The building will be 100,000 square feet in scale along with an 100,000 square-foot pad on the side if the business decided to expand.

The project is $7.7 million in total, and they’re looking for options to secure more funding, with the county and city agreeing to co-sign a loan for whatever funds are still needed.
