Logan County High School has a new school resource officer

RUSSELLVILLE Ky.-The Logan County School District welcomed a new school resource officer to Logan County High School.

Charlie Swiney was named the new school resource officer for Logan County High School on January 6.

School resource officers are responsible for safety in schools, as well as providing guidance and direction to students.

Swiney used to be a school resource officer for the Allen County School District, and he’s a retired Kentucky State Police trooper.

Logan County Sheriff Stephen Stratton says having Swiney as the resource officer will be valuable to the school.

“They’re there to relate to the kids, try to develop that relationship between law enforcement and students to a better level of understanding. They’re there to do a job which is to protect and serve the students and faculty there as well,” Stratton said.

With Swiney’s addition to the team, there are now three school resource officers serving the district in Logan County.
