Russellville firefighter rescues elderly man from house fire

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – Law enforcement and first responders responded to a fire at a Russellville home on Tuesday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m.

Logan County sheriff Stephen Stratton says transport deputy John Buchanan was traveling west on Bowling Green Road Highway (68/80) East and located a structure fire at 146 Nourse Road.

According to the Russellville Rural Fire Department, firefighter Jake Burnett was the first firefighter on scene and found one person asleep inside the burning home.

Burnett then rescued the person before the home became fully engulfed in flames, according to officials.

Stratton says deputy Buchanan assisted the elderly man from the home to safety.

Russellville Rural Fire Department was assisted by the Auburn Rural Fire Department and Adairville Rural Fire Department.

Russellville Rural fire chief Cheryl Allen says the fire is under control. The home is a total loss.

The department says multiple electrical heaters were being used are suspected to be the cause of the fire.
