Logan County Cougar athletes sign at the collegiate level

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky On Wednesday, Logan County High School celebrated five seniors who officially made their commitment to further their athletic and academic careers in college.

Staying close to home and heading just right up the road to Western Kentucky University is Morgan Taylor, who will be joining the WKU Lady Hilltopper cheerleading squad.

Next up, girls basketball guard Takyiah Mason will be taking her talents on the court to Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee, after totaling 275 points in her senior season with the Cougars.

Mason spent the entirety of her high school career at Logan County with girls’ basketball head coach Dedra Adler and spoke on the impact her coach and the support from the community had on her time in school.

“ My coach was very hard on me,” Mason said. “I played for five years, so we got very close. She was always hard on me. Fans loved me and everybody always came to the games to support. I’ll love this place forever.”

Cross country and track and field athlete Amelia Larson will be continuing her running career at Campbellsville University.

After splitting his time on the field as a linebacker and as a running back, Jacob White will be heading to Bellarmine University to play football in the fall.

White rushed for 119 yards for one rushing touchdown in his senior season, as well as lead the team on the defensive front with 88 total tackles and eight tackles for loss.

White also echoed the love and appreciation he has for Logan County.

“It’s kind of bittersweet. I mean, I’m really excited to go play at the next level, but I really am going to miss this place. It’s given me a lot of good memories, a lot of good friendships and a lot of good opportunities. I don’t know what I would do without coming here.”

Also celebrating her signing day this morning was Lady Cougar Aubrey Sears, who will be keeping the Cougar name and heading to the University of Houston to play volleyball.

The program has made two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last three seasons under head coach David Rehr, including a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2022 when the team had a 30-4 record season.

Sears totaled 554 kills in her senior year at Logan County and gave her words of advice to other high school athletes looking to make their dreams come true.

“ I hope they just realize that they can do it because it’s hard coming from a small town that’s not really known for volleyball,” Sears said. “So, as long as they put their mind to it and they keep working, they can do anything.”
