Logan County community assisting those impacted by tornado

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – On Monday, the National Weather Service announced that an EF-2 damage tornado with winds up to one hundred and twenty five miles per hour that touched down in the Chandler’s Chapel area of Logan County on Saturday morning. Damage assessments are ongoing and this rating could change.

In response to the devastation, Logan County businesses and residents are stepping up to help those affected by the tornado.

Justin Kirby, owner of Kirby Funeral Services in Russellville, is just one of many business owners hosting donation drives.

Kirby has collected a wide assortment of items for Logan County residents in need. The items they currently need include boys clothing (Size 2T-Size7/8) and toiletry items (except toothpaste).

“We had 99 homes that were structurally damaged and 44 that were completely damaged and are not there anymore. So we’re trying to help as many local people as we can.”

Seeing a need for assistance, Kirby took action to help a community facing rebuilding.

“It just fell on my heart that night when I was watching the storms, and I was blessed not to have any problems at our house and we just love our community and want to help them.”

Donation drives across Logan County are currently accepting monetary donations, clothing, baby items and more.
