Locals enjoy their day off for Labor Day

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – September 6th was the first Monday of September, a holiday recognized federally.

Labor Day was created as an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers.

Many locals were out at city and county parks to enjoy their day off of work and school.

Others spend the day on the lake, at home, or even running errands.

While not everyone had the day off, it is a day to appreciate the work that each person working in the country has accomplished.

For many, the extra day off was a nice time to enjoy with family those who did.

“It is nice to have a break from working 60 hour weeks I’m just being able to relax at the park and not having to worry about what’s going on in the real world for the day” said Lawanna Wilson, a Glasgow resident.

“It’s great to enjoy time I’m disabled so I mean I’m always usually home and just hoping to get to spend more time with him before something happens,” said William Anderson, a Bowling Green resident.

The state of Oregon was the first state to recognize Labor Day as a holiday back in 1887.

In 1894, just seven years later, it was passed in Congress, all according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
