Local WWII veteran celebrates 99th birthday
Says lifelong love is happiest achievement
ORLINDA, TN. – One of the few remaining local World War II veterans celebrated his 99th birthday Tuesday.
December 13, 1923. James Wren was born. Friends and family gathered just south of Simpson County to celebrate the decorated naval veteran’s 99th birthday.
Wren served on troop carriers in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II, serving in seven invasions.
You may remember Wren and his wife, Shirley, from a story News 40 brought you back in June… when the couple celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.
“The happiest thing [in my life] was when I found Shirley,” said Wren of his recently passed love. “We enjoyed life. Really. And had a good life…. Above all, trust in the Lord [His way]is the way it’s going to be.”
News 40 would like to wish Mr. Wren a very happy 99th birthday and say thank you to all Veterans for their service.
