Local veteran celebrates his 103rd birthday in style
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local veteran reaches a huge milestone with his family and community.
Elmo Martin celebrated his birthday Tuesday at Mission BBQ in Bowling Green, turning 103 years old.
Martin served in World War II, and two fellow veterans from his service years were in attendance.
Representatives from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Bowling Green Police Department and WKU Police were also there to share their appreciation for his service.
News 40 was able to speak with Martin, and here’s what he had to say about his big day:
“I’m the luckiest guy in the world… being lucky, healthy and I had a great job… to work in all of the automobile companies: Ford, General Motors and all those people… travel all over and helping them design the cars and so forth,” he says.
Martin recalled some of his classic war stories as well. He also says he has a book out called “Butler County Memories” and he’s currently working on a second.
