Local thrill-seeking senior’s dream comes true

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man with a wish: 69-year-old Kelvin Harmon was a daredevil back in his day, jumping out of planes and enjoying adrenaline rushes.

Well, Tuesday, Harmon’s dream of parasailing will be coming to life thanks to the Signature Healthcare’s Inspire Foundation.

Can you imagine a 69-year-old man floated 800 feet in the air for 12 minutes?

Well, that’s exactly where Kelvin Harmon, a resident at Signature Healthcare in Bowling Green will be spending his Tuesday.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, Signature Healthcare’s Inspire Foundation is able to award some residents a granted dream and Harmon’s dream is to parasail.

“I parachuted when I was in my 20’s and [this is the] next best thing. I can’t jump out of a plane,” said Harmon.

The foundations fundraising manager Roni Anderson was ecstatic to help make Harmon’s dream come true.

“It was shared that he had a desire to go parasailing in Sandusky Ohio that he was a thrill seeker and that he wanted to have this opportunity to feel freedom,” said Anderson.

“This is the first time that I’ve been outside in a while. They’ve been very good to me, but I want to feel free, free like a bird. I’m not getting any younger and so I’m going to do everything I can before it,” said Harmon.

Harmon says he has suffered a heart attack and several strokes in his lifetime so getting to fly through the air again is liberating.

“Not real nervous yet, when they start the boat up, I will be. My daughters are going, both of them, and my middle daughter is just like me too, she’s going up too,” said Harmon.

Harmon is also going to his favorite restaurant on his trip, Texas Roadhouse!

Harmon says he is so thankful for this opportunity and was full of smiles and jokes as he boarded the vehicle Monday on his way toward the boating experience of a lifetime.

His parasailing trip will begin Tuesday.
