Local students return to the classroom for a new school year
BOWLING GREEN Ky.- Wednesday was a big day for students of the Warren County School District.
At schools like Henry Moss Middle School, students made their way back to the classroom for in-person instruction five days a week. Henry Moss principal Rita Daniels has been awaiting this day for a long time. She calls the moment, unbelievable.
“I’m absolutely excited. Not as nervous as I anticipated being, but I’m really excited. I got even more excited when the students were coming in and I saw car after car after car coming around the curve. I thought ‘oh my goodness gracious, they’re all back,’” Daniels said.
School staff say the moment is made to be more significant since this day in 2020 looked quite different.
“It’s nice seeing kids, and it’s nice seeing them ready to go. Some of them are a little reluctant and nervous, so it’s nice kind of easing a little bit of their nervousness for them as they were entering the building,” Daniels said.
Students spent the first part of the morning with their homeroom teachers getting acclimated to their school. Counselor Katie Whitney was ready to jump in to help make the start smooth.
“The goal on the first day is always to get them here, get them fed and get them home, and making sure they know where they’re going throughout the day, make them feel welcome and comfortable, and ready for a great school year,” Whitney said.
The start of fall 2021, bringing students and staff together, as the dragons take flight.
“We’re just so happy to have everybody to mingle and to be around each other, while still following CDC safe practices and watching the kids interact with their friends. It’s such a blessing, we really missed that last year,” Whitney said.
