Local student saves 2 juveniles from drowning at Phil Moore Park

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Warren Central High School student was recognized in Fiscal Court this week for saving two lives at Phil Moore Park last month.

“His actions bring great credit to himself, his family and especially our community. Caleb is the kind of young man that represents the future of our community. It says so much about you and your parents and your brother, and what a tradition, but we’re honored to have you with us today,” Warren County judge executive Doug Gorman says about Caleb Hammer, a senior Dragon who saved two students from drowning.

“I was just getting ready to leave the park. I was there with my girlfriend, and I heard her, his older brother screaming for help, and there was another one out there, so I jumped in and swam to them,” Caleb says about the incident.

Superintendent Rob Clayton spoke during the meeting as well, commending Caleb for his bravery and heroism.

“We often talk about students and really our staff as well, representing the very best of Warren County Public Schools, and in my 12 years, I can’t think of a better example of representing the very best of not only our school district but as you mentioned, our greater community, the selflessness, the courage,” Clayton says.

Caleb has one message for the community if they ever run into situations like these of their own:

“I guess like in situations where, you know, someone else has a need, you should always react based on helping if you can.”
