Local Special Olympics athlete to compete in Germany

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A local athlete is competing in Berlin, Germany this week at the Special Olympics World Summer Games.

Lee Dockins of Russellville is one of the most decorated athletes in the Special Olympics’ history.

She has been to over 150 competitions and won countless medals. Lee has participated in sports such as bowling and artistic gymnastics, but this year, she’s competing in rhythmic gymnastics.

The Special Olympics of Kentucky is incredibly honored to have Lee as one of their own.

“We’re so proud of Lee in general. She has been a tremendous athlete. She coaches in the gym down there that she also works out at. She’s been a tremendous mentor to younger gymnasts with and without intellectual disabilities. She’s just been such a wonderful ambassador for the program for so very long,” says Mark Buerger, director of communications for Special Olympics Kentucky.

If you want to support her, Lee will compete tomorrow morning from 5:30 to 8:30 a.m. on ESPN3.
