Local Special Olympics athlete brings home gold medals from Germany
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local athlete is bringing home five medals from Germany from the Special Olympic Games.
Lee Dockins of Russellville is one of the most decorated gymnasts in Special Olympics history, competing in over 150 competitions throughout her career.
After winning the ball, hoop, clubs, ribbon and all-around, Dockins now has 25 medals in her trophy case.
This also marked her first gold medal sweep at any of the World Games in her gymnastics career.
Lee says she’s incredibly honored to compete and represent the United States in the Games.
“I love Germany… it’s a really nice place. It’s a very big honor and I feel happy to compete from start to finish and… makes people feel confident and part of myself and makes me happy and excited,” Dockins says.
Special Olympics Kentucky says her medal total in rhythmic gymnastics is now up to 10, with 11 more in artistic gymnastics across five World Games appearances.
