Local special education teacher writes children’s book available on Amazon
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At Rich Pond Elementary School, a special education teacher has published a children’s book called “The Super Hug,” focused on mental health.
Danielle Durbin says she’s always dreamed of becoming an author and began writing about experiences from her own life.
The book follows a student who struggles with anxiety and shows how she learns to cope in the classroom.
Durbin says she hopes her students and readers everywhere take the message to heart.
“From my perspective, representation matters a lot. So for the kids, being able to read it and then being able to learn this coping strategy as well and be like ‘Hey, okay, I can use this.’ But then also for them to know that they’re not alone. Other people do experience anxiety and mental health struggles,” she said.
