Local residents react to the decline in COVID-19 cases in the state

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With COVID-19 cases declining for six straight weeks, according to the governor, some locals are hoping we may finally be getting closer to the end of the pandemic.

Some locals are hoping the pandemic is on its way out the door following an announcement from the governor of a steady decline in cases statewide.

The announcement comes along with the announcement that phase 1c vaccinations will begin March 1 locally.

“For me to be a college student, I’m very excited because I’m hoping that everything goes back to normal. I do know some people like the online and the Zoom, which is OK but I personally, I learn more, better in class and I tend to be a little lazy with us to Zoom classes, so I’m hoping everything’s going back to normal and be able to just enjoy the regular daily life outside too,” said Sharika Tunstill, a local resident.

“Hopefully the vaccines have played a part in it also hopefully social distancing, but I think we’re all ready to get back to normalcy and everybody’s ready to get the kids back to school. So, I think it’s great I hope we keep on this trend,” said Rachel Chatman, a local resident.

“I think it’s very hopeful, but I hope people don’t get too complacent and stop the measures that we know will slow this down. The closer the more I think we need to hunker down and just try to get through to a greater portion of the population getting vaccinated,” said Travis Harmon,

When asked about vaccinations, a lot of locals are still undecided.

“I have not gotten the vaccine and I’m still undecided,” said Chatman.

“I’m undecided about it I still want to do some more research on the vaccine and fully get an understanding of what’s in it and the effects because I’m still trying to weigh out my options on seeing how the reactions is with everybody else getting it right now,” said Tunstill.

“I haven’t paid my mind up but I haven’t been sick I’ve been quarantining ever since this epidemic started but we’ll see when that time comes,” said Rudy Washington, a local resident.

Harmon said he got the shot.

“I did absolutely I got my first shot last Thursday and I get my second on March 11,” said Harmon.

He said he was happy to get it.

“Oh, delighted, just delighted. I’ll be glad when they open it up and everyone who wants one can get one and that everyone will want one,” said Harmon.
