Local residents celebrate national napping day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As Bowling Green residents headed back to work after losing an hour of sleep to Daylight Saving Time, it was the perfect day for a nap on National Napping Day.
WNKY’s Scott Burchett hit the downtown streets to talk to residents about the time change and of course, napping.
Jana Shobe and her dog Bruster were out and about in Bowling Green and although she wasn’t aware of the “holiday” she said a nap was already on her mind. As for Bruster, he manages to squeeze in more than one nap every day.
Sarah Mayfield in downtown Bowling Green as well wasn’t feeling the need for a nap but she also said she didn’t know time sprang forward overnight Saturday, so she never lost any sleep.
While National Napping Day is all in good fun, the need for a good night’s sleep is serious business for your body and mind.
The National Sleep Foundation recommends getting eight hours of sleep every night, and that’s a minimum. Some people need more than eight hours of sleep.
If you drink coffee, tea or anything else with caffeine, switch over to caffeine-free drinks by late afternoon so your body has time to metabolize the caffeine well before bedtime.
Getting your brain in a sleep routine helps. Go to bed the same time every night and get up the same time every morning since moving sleep times around can make you feel tired.
