Local officials proclaim National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Officials gathered in Bowling Green on Thursday to proclaim Nov. 16-22 as National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
According to the city of Bowling Green, for over 25 years, the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness have aimed to bring awareness to the reasons people experience hunger and homelessness.
This includes obstacles like rising housing costs or limited access to resources, the city says.
The city says the goal is to inspire communities “to take action.”
The upcoming week is a reminder of the following, according to the city:
- Many local organizations work tirelessly to provide shelter, supportive services, meals and essential supplies to those in need.
- Community involvement matters. Students, service groups, and residents all play a vital role in supporting neighbors experiencing hardship.
- Hunger and homelessness remain pressing issues both nationwide and right here at home.
- House on the Hill and countless other partners in our community embody the very spirit of this national initiative every day.
As we recognize National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the city invites everyone to learn, volunteer and support the organizations working to make a difference.
