Law enforcement officers from Kentucky State Police, Bowling Green Police Department and Warren County Sheriff’s Office joined forces Tuesday for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The run raises awareness for Special Olympics Kentucky, an organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for people with intellectual disabilities.

Officers started their nearly 4-mile trek at Flex Park Drive near Redpoint Climbing Center and ended at Chaney’s Dairy Barn.

According to a release, Special Olympics Kentucky says the event is part of a larger statewide initiative now in its 41st year. The torch run continues Wednesday in Northern Kentucky and ends Friday evening in Richmond, where officers will present the torch at the opening ceremonies of the state summer games.

This year’s state games feature more than 1,000 athletes competing in bocce, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer and track and field.
