Local man reflects on Olympic Games torchbearer experience

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the Paris Olympics kicking off today in the opening ceremony, News 40 had the opportunity to speak with one local man who participated in the 2002 and 2004 games as a torchbearer.

George Warren was an inline skater for the United States, and he had the privilege to represent the country as a torchbearer for the 2002 Salt Lake Games and the 2004 Greek Games.

Ahead of this year’s ceremony, he shared what draws him back to watch the Olympic games.

“You want to watch it because you know you’ve been a part of that. You know what it feels like. You’d like to see the faces on any torchbearers, and it’s unbelievable,” Warren said. “I mean, from those who are basically can run those who were in wheelchairs, you know, every aspect of, you know, being a torchbearer. It’s unbelievable.”
