Local impact of peaches at Jackson’s Orchard
WARREN COUNTY, Ky.- It’s peach season at Jackson’s Orchard. This is an exciting time for tourists and residents, but for the farmers who pick thousands of bushels, it’s fruitful.
Johnathen Price, co-owner of Jackson’s Orchard, says, “To bring a crop to maturity, you can’t do this for the job. You’ve got to love it because there’s a lot of rough days. But it’s extremely gratifying.”
He says, “You can’t get fresher than local. You know, where it comes from. You know who produces it. And that’s not just peaches. That’s any kind of produce. Warren County and the surrounding counties do a fantastic job of growing produce. To feed this community, local communities, and even beyond that, ”
The peaches here at Jackson’s orchard are more than just fresh produce. They contribute to the growth of the economy here in Bowling Green and the surrounding areas.
Price says, “There’s a smaller and smaller percentage of the population that grows our food now, but that does not mean there’s a smaller economic impact.”
Growth doesn’t stop there. The community also keeps Price encouraged.
He says, “To see people excited to eat peaches, to eat a peach sundae, it’s very rewarding.”
