BOWLING GREEN Ky.-A Day that is music to the ears of certain students and school staff. The Kentucky Music Educators’ Association marching band semifinals and finals are this weekend.

This comes as the marching band competition season was cancelled for 2020 out of an abundance of caution. For this reason, music students and band staff are raring to go. Finals will be October 30 at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field.

The bands who made it through regionals will go on to the semi-finals this weekend, and from there, a handful will be selected for finals. For this reason, regionals are often seen as the most important part of the competition season. These took place October 23.

One of this region’s bands to make it to semi-finals is the Metcalfe County Hornet Band in class 1A. Director Tiffany Riggins can’t wait for the big day.

“Now my students get to play at that Kroger Field stadium for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. I just think there’s no better place that we’d want to be on Saturday, and it’s just amazing coming out of Covid what we’re able to achieve just coming out of that,” Riggins said.

After semi-finals, 6 bands from each class will perform in the finals. Out of those, 4 bands from each class will be named the top 4 for the 2021 competition season. For those attending as spectators, the UK athletics clear bag policy will be in effect.
