Local hauntings in downtown Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Around this time of year, we’re regaled with scary stories and movies, so it makes you wonder if Bowling Green has a ghost problem?
News 40 spoke to paranormal investigator Dr. Tamela Smith about local ghost stories, who told us a few locations that have a spooky past.
Smith mentioned the Getty building, as well the Richardsville Road Bridge, both The Capitol and the Public Theatre of Kentucky and some houses, as well as a cemetery in town.
Above 440 Main, legend has it a ghost lives there named Mary, who only seems to be calmed by leaving books in the closet. News 40 spoke to the newest resident of the unit she is said to live in, who said she was skeptical about the rumors but hasn’t had too many issues just yet.
Dr. Smith told the story about the old bridge near Richardsville, saying legends vary, but a woman is said to have been killed or accidentally fell off the bridge, and now if you place your car in neutral at night, something moves your car along the bridge.
Smith also mentioned that it’s hard to find a theater that doesn’t have a ghost story.
News 40 swung by the Phoenix Theatre to talk to Amber Turner, who is a director in the theatre. Turner said she’s had several experiences since 2015, including voices whispering to her out of the dark, noises followed by things on the floor when she goes to investigate and even shadows walking across the stage.
