Local family wins December Logan County Chamber of Commerce Beautification Award

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A local family earned the Logan County Chamber of Commerce’s December Beautification Award.

Joe and Varnell White were this month’s beautification award winners due to their impressive and elaborate Christmas light and decoration display.

Their front yard is filled with numerous lights and decorations with various characters and Christmas-related blow-ups.

There are various familiar faces, such as Santa Claus, The Grinch, Rudolph, Mickey Mouse and many other characters are seen throughout the family’s yard.

The White’s didn’t stop at the front yard either. The inside of their house, the backyard and even their garage were fully decked out for the holidays.

The inside of the house didn’t feature just one, but 14 Christmas trees in total.

This is something that the family has done since 1987, nearly 40 years of decorating for the holidays. They look forward to seeing everyone come and check out their display each year.

“Now the yard’s fun because people bring their children out here to see the lights. That makes him really happy,” said Varnell White when asked about her and her husband’s favorite parts of putting up the decorations each year.

They have collected a lot of special decorations and ornaments over the past four decades and have done this every year except for one, when they lost their previous house due to a fire.

Since then, they have continued to decorate each year for the holidays and always have one of the best Christmas displays in the area. Because of this, the Logan County Chamber of Commerce chose to recognize them for this month’s Beautification Award.
