Local county and metro governments can apply for spay, neuter grants

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Local humane societies will be competing for a grant that helps with spay and neuter costs.

The goal of the competition is to help humane societies prevent overpopulation.

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture says applications are now available to county and metro governments for spay and neuter grants.

Local animal shelters will receive up to $2,500 by the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board, a $500 increase over last year.

The grant will allow humane societies to keep the price of spay and neutering affordable.

Because overpopulation is an issue locally, the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society is offering “Pitty Kitty”

“Pitty Kitty” is a promotion where any pit bull or kitten can be spayed or neutered for $10.

Just last week, the Bowling Green animal shelter received over 200 kittens in foster care alone.

Leah Lawrence, the Adoption Center Manager, says situations like that are why the grant is so beneficial.

The applicants with the highest percent of matching dollars will receive the grant.

Applications are due for the grant by July 15th.
