Local businesses see spike in sales for the holidays
BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Downtown Bowling Green is a prime place for local shopping year-round. Local business owners from businesses like Morris Jewelry and Barbara Stewart Interiors said sales this time of year are even better than usual.
“4th quarter is it for us. We are the busiest. We have a lot of Christmas decor, as well as gifts. It definitely is our busiest time,” Barbara Stewart Interiors interior designer Susan Hoechner.
“We have a lot of gentlemen come in here trying to make that last-minute purchase before Christmas comes around. We’ve seen a spike here in the last couple of weeks,” added Morris Jewelry salesperson Jim Sears.
Holiday shoppers say the selection of small businesses in the square is great for Christmas shopping.
“My goodness, I mean these people who own these stores do such a good job. They’re so nice. You can’t beat that. You won’t find that anywhere else on the planet except in Bowling Green. I love this place,” said holiday shopper Rachel Jones.
Business owners said the charm of shopping local lies in the fact that regulars come back, and that it’s fruitful for businesses to see people support the community.
“Our shop local customers…there’s nothing like them. They come in, they’re loyal, people really want to support the local businesses,” Hoechner said.
