Local bus driver retiring after almost 40 years

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green will be missing a long time bus driver after this week, who has put in decades of service to the city.

Mary Jackson has been driving buses for the City of Bowling Green for the last 36 years and will take her last ride on Friday, March 29. News 40 will join her on that last day to catch a day in the life of Jackson, who we’re told has touched a lot of people.

The station talked to Deshawna Maxey on Thursday morning, who has been riding Bowling Green’s buses since she was a small girl, once homeless and sightseeing. She says Jackson has become one of her favorite people she has ever met over the last couple of decades.

Maxey says that riding Route 2 is “like having your mom drive you around. She tells you when you’re messing up, tells you when you’re doing good…” and that Jackson is an “invaluable member of the community.”

Jackson says that she will surely be sad to retire, and the job has changed her life for the better, giving her more empathy and patience throughout her life.

News 40 will join Jackson for her last ride this Friday.
