Local berry farms see successful season
WARREN COUNTY, KY.- Berry farms all over Warren County are in full swing. From blackberries to blueberries all kinds of berries are being picked by people. This not only gives people a healthier option, it also builds trust between the farmers and the consumers.
Kim Essig, the owner of Bluegrass Berry Farm tells us why people appreciate berry farms. She says, “It’s just the association of where your food comes from. It’s important because the closer your food is to where you live, the healthier it’s going to be.”
Berries rely heavily on the weather and with recent rain some berry farms have a second harvest in their future and this means berries are on the rise.
Kim also says,”They are a dynamic crop because it’s so weather dependent. Rain sun heat and the whole strawberry growing as a crop begins really in the fall before so it’s a fast crop, but there’s a lot of work required, a lot of labor.”
Knowing where your food comes from provides peace of mind. And gives you the chance to feed your family the fresh fruits of your labor.
Brian Adams, the owner of Berrylicious Orchard shares some of the reactions of people who pick berries. He says, they are very surprised at just how different the fruit tastes, which is homegrown, and just how sweet it is… farms are where food comes from. So farming is very essential to us Americans. ”
