Local Artist designs the Kentucky Derby Artwork

SOUTH CENTRAL, KY.- A Kentucky native has been selected to design artwork for this year’s Kentucky Derby in Louisville.

Grayson Reynolds, of Glasgow, is creating this year’s commemorative glasses and other Derby artwork for the 152nd Kentucky Derby.

She says the project is especially meaningful, combining her passion for art with a lifelong love of the Derby tradition.

“So this is the first time that I’ve ever truly reached that title,” Reynolds said. “You don’t have to sell a piece to be an artist by any means, but I have very high standards for myself. I’ve been doing art as long as I can remember. Growing up, we didn’t really have a playroom — we had an art room.”

When asked about her success, Reynolds says it still hasn’t fully sunk in.

“If I really sit down and think about it, it still doesn’t feel real,” she said. “I don’t think it will until I’m there in a few weeks. Then afterward, I’ll probably look back and think, ‘Wow, I really did that.’”

The commemorative glasses are available for purchase at Kroger and Liquor Barn.
