Local 2164 votes ‘no’ to tentative UAW-GM deal

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The membership of Local UAW 2164 chapter in Bowling Green finally had their chance to vote on the tentative deal that was reached between the United Auto Workers and General Motors last week.

The majority of workers voted “no”.

Members in production/division one voted 44% in favor of the deal, 55% opposed it.

Members in skilled trades/division two voted 47% in favor of the deal, 52% opposed it.

Overall, 53% of the members that voted on Wednesday did not approve of the new deal.

880 members of Local 2164 showed up to cast their ballot, which is roughly a 88% voter turnout for the chapter.

Ratification votes are continuing to take place at chapters across the country, with a final tally of votes expected to be announced some time Friday afternoon.

A majority vote from all the members will mean the strike will be over and workers will have to go back to their jobs, even if their local chapters voted “no” to the new deal.
