Living Well: Organ Transplant in time for Grandparents Day
It was a very special Grandparents Day on Sunday for a patient who had a rare triple organ transplant this year.
We learn about this grandfather’s inspirational story in today’s Living Well.
64-year-old Don Elliot suffered from a rare genetic disease that over the years had led to the damage of multiple organs. After months of testing, doctors at the Cleveland Clinic decided to do a triple organ transplant—that transplant covered a double lung, liver, and kidney.
Don says the thing that kept him motivated was to be there for his wife and my grandkids. Surgeon Dr. Sameep with the Cleveland Clinic says this type of triple organ transplant is extremely rare, with only 4 ever done in the United States.
