Lifeskills discusses how routine can help children’s health

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A child’s health can be impacted in more ways than one when school starts.

Health experts say most kids need structure to thrive. A consistent routine can improve behavior, help them process new information and adjust to changes. Routine doesn’t just support success in the classroom, it can also boost their mental health.

Janet Rodriguez, a therapist with Lifeskills, says, “Mental health, especially in the youth, has been intensified and it’s crucial in creating a healthy transition back to school. And some of that is routine. Kids and children, they thrive off routine.”

Rodriguez also shares that many students feel more comfortable and will share their feelings with open conversations without being judged.
