UPDATE: Librarian killed in Todd County crash, man charged with vehicular homicide
FAIRVIEW, Ky. – A North Todd Elementary School librarian was killed in a crash on Wednesday.
According to a report from WNKY News 40 partner WEKT Radio, Todd County Emergency Management responded to a wreck near the intersection of Goshen Road and US 68 near Fairview.
TCEM says a vehicle driven by Karen Hargrove, 58 of Hopkinsville, collided with a truck driven by Timothy Todrank, 60 of Houston, Texas.
Hargrove sustained life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Todd County Coroner’s Office.
Law enforcement says Todrank was lethargic and could not verbally communicate with officers. Todrank allegedly later confessed he fell asleep behind the wheel, crossed the median, and struck Hargrove’s vehicle.
Todrank is charged with vehicular homicide, DUI, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is lodged at the Todd County Detention Center.
WEKT says the eastbound lanes were blocked for several hours as Kentucky State Police investigated the crash.
Superintendent Mark Thomas told Your WEKT News Edge that Hargrove was a beloved member of the North Todd Elementary community.
“We are heartbroken for the loss of one of our own,” adding that she “was a wonderful human being and a fabulous educator,” said Thomas.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing.
