Lead teacher selected for Teranga Academy

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Independent School District has selected the lead teacher for Teranga Academy.
Misti Logsdon will serve as the lead teacher at the school, which will support teens and their families new to the United States and to American schools by providing up to three years of competency-based English immersion programming, according to a release.
Logsdon has 23 years of experience in education, including serving the last ten years as Curriculum Coordinator and Gifted and Talented Resource Teacher for Bristow Elementary School. She has worked on assessment teams, studying, prioritizing and aligning standards for growth.
Logsdon says, “There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ in education and this role will allow me to work with that very mission in mind. I believe students need to have a basic foundation in reading, writing, math, and social understanding to be successful in life. As educators, we must focus on preparing all students to be the best version of themselves.”
The Teranga Academy will open in BGISD in partnership with the Fugees Family, Inc. Programming will be open to Bowling Green Junior High and Bowling Green High School students who have been in the United States for three years or less, are multilingual and have had their formal education interrupted.
Logsdon will officially begin her new role on July 1, however she will be working alongside BGISD and the Fugees Family, Inc. over the next few months preparing for the opening of Teranga Academy Bowling Green.
