Lawsuit filed against WKU and Greek Life; student accuses fraternity member of rape
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Western Kentucky University student, who claims she was forced to drink alcohol and then raped on campus, has filed a lawsuit against WKU.
The student also names Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Kappa Delta Sorority and several others in the lawsuit for the failure to protect her against harmful behavior.
The student says she was forced to drink alcohol at a fraternity party called “Crush Dance” in February 2021. The student also claims she was under 21 at the time.
She then alleges that a fraternity member raped her in his dorm at McCormack Hall, after the “Crush Dance”.
In the lawsuit, the student claims that WKU had a duty to supervise campus fraternities but failed to do so and allegedly turned a blind eye and failed to protect her against harm.
News 40 spoke to the student’s attorney earlier today, who says
“[The plaintiff’s] lawsuit is about making WKU safer.”
We also reached out to WKU about the lawsuit and we received this statement…
“We prioritize the safety and well-being of our students above all else. The allegations made against WKU in this suit are untrue, and we will formally file our full response with more information in the coming days.”
News 40 will continue to follow this story and bring you new developments as they become available.
