Lady Tops to feature new faces in 2020-21 season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Kentucky Lady Hilltoppers basketball team will look quite a bit different next month when the team officially kicks off its 2020-21 campaign.
Gone are the household names of Dee Givens, Whitney Creech and Alexis Brewer, and in their stead are seven newcomers, including six true freshmen.
In addition, head coach Greg Collins says that senior guard Sherry Porter has opted out of playing this season due to Covid-19 concerns and 1st team All-Conference USA forward Raneem Elgedawy won’t be available for at least the start of the season as she remains with her family in Alexandria, Egypt.
Collins says that transitioning from a senior-laden group to a young and inexperienced bunch is quite the challenge, but it’s something that he, and his team, are working through together.
“The challenge really, I believe, is trying to make sure you don’t move too fast as a coach,” Collins explains, “..we are working really diligently at that and I think the players have a great approach to it… We’ll just keep working and teaching each day and it will pay off.”
The Lady Tops will begin Conference USA play on December 31st as they host the Charlotte 49ers at Diddle Arena.
A non-conference schedule has not yet been released by the team.
