Lady Toppers Land Two on Conference USA Players of the Week List
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Two WKU women’s basketball student-athletes were recognized on Monday by Conference USA for their play against Charlotte over the weekend. Raneem Elgedawy was named Co-Player of the Week and Hope Sivori was voted Freshman of the Week.
Elgedawy played a major role in WKU’s sweep of Charlotte, a team that had not been beaten since Dec. 6 and was undefeated in conference play. The senior posted 26 points and 20 rebounds in the first game, becoming only the fourth Lady Topper to ever record a 20-20 game (points-rebounds) in WKU history. In game two, Elgedawy had 20 points and 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. She also dished out a career high five assists in the first game.
The Alexandria, Egypt native came up clutch for WKU in both games. She blocked a potential game-winning shot for Charlotte as time expired in the first overtime of game one and then assisted on Meral Abdelgawad’s game-winning three. On Saturday, she came back in the game after suffering a bloody nose and came up with two offensive rebounds in the final minute of play and then made the go-ahead three that proved to be the game winner.
Sivori continues to grow as the starting point guard for WKU as a freshman. Over the weekend she averaged 15.5 points per game and 5.0 assists per game. She was the second leading scorer in both games with 19 points and 12 points.
In the first game, WKU was down four with 2:30 left in regulation when Sivori made good on an and-one opportunity to get the Lady Toppers back within one point. In the second overtime, Sivori tied the game with 42 seconds on a clutch 3-pointer and then followed that up with a layup on the next possession. In the second game, Sivori had three assists, two rebounds and a steal in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Toppers will be home in E.A. Diddle Arena again this weekend against Florida Atlantic. The games on Friday and Saturday will tipoff at 6 p.m.
