Lady Falcons and Trojanettes advance after day one of 4th Region Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the calendar flipping over to March on Sunday, it was only fitting that the postseason madness began on the hardwood.

The 2026 4th Region Girls Basketball Tournament opened with two matchups in Diddle Arena, seeing two teams clinch spots in the semifinal round.

First up, it would be Monroe County outlasting Bowling Green in a back-and-forth battle.

The matchup between the Lady Falcons and Lady Purples was the first since 2017, and that specific game had a lot of relevance for this year’s matchup.

Not only was it a win in that game for Monroe, it was the last time the program had advanced in the regional tournament, but with Sunday’s 45-40 victory, the Lady Falcons returned to round two.

“ Just with the summer with these girls and all the younger girls, it’s my favorite team that I’ve ever coached, and I’ve coached and had a lot of great relationships with a lot of teams, but just something about this group. They fight, they work hard together and they’re closer off the floor than they are on, so it’s just a blessing to be their coach,” Monroe County head coach Clifton Hamilton said.

Following the tournament opener was a head-to-head between Barren County and Logan County.

Although the Lady Cougars had the game’s leading scorer in Brenley Adler, who dropped 23 points in her near-30 minutes of work, it would be a collective effort from the Trojanettes to take down the 13th District runners-up.

For the eighth time this season, Barren County would drop 70+ points, with help from 10 made three-point baskets, and it would help the Trojanettes cruise into the semifinal round in a 71-44 win.

“Obviously you want to see the ball go through the net, and we did see that early and I think that kind of just kind of relaxes you a little bit. I thought we played extremely well. We shared the ball, but the reason that was is just good players, good teammates that want to be there for each other,” Barren County head coach Piper Lindsey said.

Monroe County and Barren County will face off for the second time this season on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

Game one between the teams resulted in a Trojanettes win 61-47, but the stakes are heightened this time around, with a spot in Saturday’s region final on the line.
