WNKY News 40 Weather Reports: La Nina Spring Pattern In KY

How La Nina Impacts Spring Weather In Our Region

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Spring season is here, and in south central Kentucky, severe weather  can be more prominent during this time of year. Numerous storm systems with risks for heavy rain, intense winds, hail and tornadoes are just the part of the start of an active weather season. Shane Holinde with the Kentucky Mesonet discusses recent weather events and the impacts La Nina brings to our region during the season’s transition. Holinde expects an active weather season this Spring. The pattern calls for above normal temperatures and wet weather in our region. Flooding rains from February 15th and March 15th has brought a significant increase in soil moisture across southern Kentucky. This may be problematic for corn and soy bean farmers. Already, Bowling Green is seeing 30+% normal precipitation for the year.
