KYTC encourages parents to teach teens safe driving

FRANKFORT, Ky. – State transportation officials are encouraging parents and guardians during National Teen Driver Safety Week to make sure their teens know the rules of the road before handing them the keys.

According to these safety departments, the key rules of the road are, No. 1, avoid distracted driving, and it’s the leading factor in most crashes.

Next, always wear seat belts. KYTC says it’s the best protection against injury and death.

Be sure to take extra caution while driving with passengers. Research shows that the risk of a fatal crash goes up dramatically in direct relation to the number of passengers in a car.

Finally, be sure to obey speed limits, and don’t drive drowsy or impaired.
