Kummer Little Recreation Center to bring back weekly open wheelchair basketball

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kummer Little Recreation Center is preparing to bring back one of its most popular activities in weekly open wheelchair basketball.

In just a couple of weeks, the rec center will bring back open wheelchair basketball for anyone in the community to come out and enjoy.

Every Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. everyone is welcome to come watch or join in and play. There will be chairs provided for those who want to participate.

The wheelchair basketball program was once one of Kummer Little’s biggest programs, bringing everyone in the together.

“It lets you then go into a mindset of a person who maybe is a daily chair user or uses a chair every once in a while. And so it’s a good way to have people without disabilities come in and try something and like, put themselves in the mindset of, ‘hey, there are people that use chairs every day,'” said Madison Duncan, adaptive recreation supervisor at Kummer Little Recreation Center.

The first open wheelchair basketball session will take place on Sunday, Jan. 18 at Kummer Little Recreation Center.
