UPDATE: Identities released in officer-involved shooting in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. – A man who was shot during a police response has been released from the hospital and is now facing charges in Owensboro.
According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers were requested by the Owensboro Police Department on Dec. 21 to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
A preliminary investigation states officers responded to a 911 call at a home on Orchard Street, where they made contact with 21-year-old Marcello C. Johnson Jr. of Owensboro.
Troopers say Marcello Johnson was in the kitchen holding a knife, refusing to leave and making threats toward his sister and her children.
After several verbal commands to drop the knife, troopers say Marcello Johnson did not comply, resulting in Owensboro police officer Michael Cory Johnson, 33, and Sgt. Anthony Williams, 49, both of Owensboro, discharging their agency issued firearms.
Marcello Johnson was shot, resulting in injuries.
He was transported to Owensboro Health for treatment and has since been released.
Marcello Johnson is being held at the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro, facing charges of fourth-degree assault – domestic violence, menacing, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and resisting arrest.
Officer Michael Cory Johnson has been with the Owensboro Police Department for six years, while Williams has served for 16 years.
The investigation remains ongoing.
