KSP investigating death at Kentucky correctional complex

WEST LIBERTY, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating a death at an Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex.
According to a release, the Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex contacted KSP Post 8 to investigate an assault that occurred between two inmates on Sunday.
KSP troopers and detectives located Marcus D. Gray, 49, of Corbin, unresponsive in his jail cell. KSP began lifesaving measures before Morgan County EMS arrived.
Gray was taken to Morgan County ARH Hospital and then flown to University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in Lexington for treatment.
Gray later died at the hospital.
KSP’s initial investigation shows that Gray was allegedly assaulted by John D. Thomas, 32, of Burlington.
No criminal charges have been filed, according to the release.
KSP says the case will be presented to the Morgan County Grand Jury at their next meeting.
The investigation is ongoing.
