KSP investigating after suspect shot in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky State Police are investigating after a suspect was shot outside of a Lexington apartment complex.
Authorities said two officers were dispatched to Jennifer Road Thursday night for a report of a stolen vehicle, which was reported to contain a firearm.
Investigators say when the officers arrived, the suspect pointed a gun at the officers. Authorities say the officers told the suspect to put down the gun. Police chief Lawrence Weathers said the suspect did not comply, and that’s when the officers fired at the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police on scene said he was alert and talking. The officers were not injured in the incident.
Weathers said the two officers involved had their body worn cameras activated at the time. That video will be reviewed as part of the investigation.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incidents Response Team is investigating the shooting. In addition, the police department’s Public Integrity Unit will conduct an internal review.
The two officers involved have been placed on administrative assignment pending the outcome of the investigation.
